I quit giving to trick or treaters when all this fear stuff came up. It seemed bizarre to me that they were asking me to give to them while simultaneously regarding me as a potential baddie. Can't have it both ways, guys. I turn off the porch light and turn on the sprinklers. The grass needs a lot of watering in the fall, and if it's afraid I might be giving it something lethal, it hasn't said anything.

Several years ago, the PTA at my daughter's elementary school decreed that all costumes on Halloween should represent what the child "want's to be when she grows up." WHAT? My then six year old daughter went as a Mermaid. I asked her what she wanted to be, and that's what she said. She's was SIX. I received a note from the school letting me know that I would be expected to follow the guidelines a bit more closely the following year. So when the time came again, I sent her as an Operating room nurse. Complete with fake blood splatters and post operation "guts" stuck to her scrubs. The costume was a "bit too realistic" and again, the school was not amused. I however, laughed myself silly.
